A New Year’s makeover with SC Skin & Beauty Day Spa in Wallace
Owner and operator Sarah Cavanaugh of SC Skincare has had a passion for beauty and skincare since growing up.
In March of 2024, she opened a salon on North Norwood Street in Wallace for residents to indulge in self-care.
Her career aspirations began during a search for salon services in Duplin County.
“I did not know anything about skincare, what products to use or how to use them. I also struggled with my natural lashes that would never hold a curl,“ said Cavanaugh.
One day, she searched for lash lift services and found a licensed esthetician who provided beauty services for eyelashes out of the county.
This sparked Cavanaugh’s interest in esthetics field for a career that she could bring to Duplin County.
“From that day on, I went home and researched everything there is about esthetics. I feel in love with every service there was.” she said.
Cavanaugh studied and received her esthetician license. It involved working long hours at a job and then going to classes late into the evening.
In the process of taking her courses and a full-time job, she felt like there was much more waiting for her. Something was missing. Soon after, she decided to open her own day spa business. The process took about a year to make and transform the building of SC Skin & Beauty into what it is today.
From facials and beauty services, Cavanaugh makes her clients feel beautiful. Offering personalized care with a one on one connection, this small business environment creates the ideal atmosphere with attention to detail for every client.
SC Skincare provides facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, dermaplaning, lash lifts, lash tinting, eyebrow tinting, eyebrow lamination, waxing, and makeup services.
If individuals are looking for a makeover or a licensed esthetician to polish their appearance, the salon has services for everyone.
“Each facial is customized to the needs of each person, we offer a higher grade of exfoliant and mask and a ton of other options.” said Cavanaugh.
The tools and process for facials are more extensive than at home treatments. She utilizes a high frequency wand that uses currents of targeted thermal energy to create ozone that oxygenates the skin and increases circulation and even non-invasive procedures like dermaplaning and microdermabrasion.
Sessions are offered in a quiet and private room for a spa-like experience.
“Making others feel good about themselves is the biggest reward of my career.”
For anyone looking to open up their own business and enter the beauty industry, Cavanaugh shared words of wisdom to pursue your dreams.
“Don’t be afraid to start a new season, change can be good thing. Always stay positive and make a better version of yourself in each season in life,” she said.
“Being an esthetician is the ability to change someone’s life by restoring confidence in people and giving them an oasis when they need it.”
