Scalps are finally getting the attention they not only deserve but need to promote the well-being of your hair.
Driven by wellness trends, head spas are the new must-try self-care treatments taking the beauty industry by storm.
According to SpaSeekers, head spas saw a 233% increase in searches this year, driven by popularity on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
ROOTS + DAISIES is the first salon in the SouthCoast to offer a curated head spa menu, now available at 14 Sconticut Neck Road, Fairhaven.
Fairhaven residents Nikki Avila and Stephany Silveira opened ROOTS + DAISIES in 2018, bringing their passion, knowledge, and techniques in hair care to Greater New Bedford.
After seeing head spa treatments trending all over social media, the owners of ROOTS + DAISIES salon decided to expand their business and bring those treatments to the SouthCoast.
“We renovated the salon with an expansion, finishing the spa in June of this year,” said Karista Avila, the salon’s coordinator. “We wanted to put our own spin on it and focus on the relaxation and health aspect of scalp treatments.”
What is a head spa?
The idea is to combine the relaxation and mental wellness benefits of a spa experience with advanced scalp care techniques that promote healthy hair growth, deep cleansing and lasting hydration.
Not only does it nourish the scalp and hair, but it also rejuvenates the mind and relaxes your entire body.
“The salon is bringing a luxurious head spa experience with a grounded, holistic approach, providing full stress relief while using our expertise in the hair field to give the clients a full service experience,” said Avila.
Each treatment starts with a deep scalp cleanse and a double shampoo, followed by a gentle waterfall rinse and a relaxing head, neck, and shoulder massage.
A nourishing hair mask is then applied to treat and moisturize, finished with a deep conditioner and a soothing tea rinse to lock in all the benefits.
You can choose from a 45-minute, 60-minute, or 90-minute treatment.
“The treatments can be completely customized,” said Avila. “We offer a range of add-ons to personalize each session based on our clients’ needs, whether they’re dealing with a dry scalp, thinning hair, or conditions like dermatitis. We use our knowledge of scalp health to create the best experience for every individual.”
Why should you get a scalp treatment?
Many people invest in expensive products to care for their hair, but normal shampooing and conditioning in the shower often don’t go deep enough. Over time, buildup can collect on the scalp, leaving your hair lackluster.
“We help bring the scalp back to a clean, healthy slate with a deep cleanse that removes buildup and restores moisture to the hair,” said Avila. “It’s especially helpful during seasons like this, when the weather can really dry your hair out.”
Avila notes that while getting the treatment once a month is ideal for the best results, it can also be enjoyed as a seasonal indulgence.
“I often see clients come in not really knowing what to expect, often after a long, exhausting day, and they leave feeling completely rejuvenated and amazed by the experience,” said Avila. “It’s unlike anything they’ve ever done before.”
In addition to choosing from one of the curated head spa treatments, ranging from “The Fresh Start,” which restores and refreshes your scalp, to “From Head to Sole,” which includes a soothing foot soak, you can personalize your experience with add-ons like light therapy, a blowout, a facial, heated mitts and booties, and much more.
For anyone unsure if a hair spa is right for them, Avila says, “Try even just the 45-minute treatment, and I guarantee you’ll feel cared for and leave more relaxed than when you came in. Give yourself a little self-care and self-love, treat yourself to an experience here.”
As time goes on, the salon plans to add even more add-ons to further enhance the luxurious, relaxing experience of each treatment.
