A medical spa is moving from Urbana to Savoy, with owner Samar Abdel citing a need for more space to accommodate clients and offer new services.
Elegant Beauty Med Spa has left its old location at 1112 W. University Ave., and is preparing to reopen at 1804 Woodfield Drive.
According to medical director Abdel Kader Abdel Jaber, husband of Abdel, the spa is taking appointments for August and expects to open sometime after the first of the month.
He said their to-do-list for getting ready includes moving furniture and equipment into the new location.
“We just outgrew the location that we had,” Abdel said. “It wasn’t enough for our clients. We had a lot of people now who were going to be waiting and we couldn’t schedule them, so we were looking for a bigger place, which is a good thing.”
She estimated that the new space in Savoy is double or triple the size of their old spot. Additionally, it has more rooms and is better able to accommodate large pieces of equipment that they’ll need to add new services.
One of their new offerings is body contouring, said Abdel Jaber.
“We’re doing a lot more wellness too,” he said.
They will also continue to offer their current services, which include fillers, Botox, facials, laser hair removal and weight loss programs.
Carrying the community for half a century
Tatman’s Towing, located at 810 E. Perkins Rd. in Urbana, turns 50 this year.
Paul Tatman opened the shop in July 1974, current owner Jim Hampton said.
Hampton, who bought the business from Bill Nelson in 2005, said it feels “amazing” to hit this milestone. He added that he’s had a lot of fun during his time with the company and appreciates the shop’s crew, who are like family.
He attributed the towing company’s longevity to customer service and integrity.
In addition to its day to day services, the business annually provides free towing services to individuals in Champaign, Urbana and Savoy who find themselves too intoxicated to drive home on New Year’s Eve.
“We continue to be here for the community,” Hampton said. “And we plan on being here for another 50 years.”
Overtime rebrands to focus on energy drinks
Overtime Nutrition, located at The Fields in Champaign, recently underwent a rebrand and is now known as Overtime Energy Drinks.
According to co-owner Hilary Reinhart, the change was a result of the shop’s decision to switch suppliers. She explained that they initially opened three years ago under a multi-level marketing structure that “hasn’t panned out for us the way we thought it would.”
“We found a supplier through a mutual friend who created his own energy drink proprietary blend out of Decatur,” she said. “So we connected with him this summer, and we’re going to be able to get his product at a cheaper cost and that will allow us to lower our prices for our customers.”
The product in question is Big Blue Energy Drinks, founded by Bradan Birt. Reinhart said that the name is a reference to Millikin University, as both she and the drink’s creator attended the school.
She added that the name change to “Overtime Energy Drinks” felt appropriate, since the shop’s menu will no longer feature shakes or coffee.
“We’re just focusing on our energy drinks,” Reinhart said. “That has always been our biggest seller.”
She added that they plan to eventually have a noncaffeinated option.
The business celebrated the rebrand with a grand reopening on July 19.
Restaurant arrival updates
The opening of El Trujillanito Kitchen & Bar, a new family-run Peruvian restaurant at 1706 S. State St. in Champaign, will be delayed.
Adamaris Vicente, daughter of owners Lidia Fernandez and Rigoberto Vicente, said the family is waiting on a piece of machinery from Peru.
“It got delayed, so we can’t open until it gets here,” she said.
The restaurant had previously planned to open the first week of August. Vicente was unable to give an updated estimate at this time.
Meanwhile, over in Campustown, Yummy Future’s second coffee shop at 401 Green St. in Champaign will hopefully open in late August, said co-founder Garrett Yan.
He added that the new location will have a different aesthetic than their shop at 609 E. Green St.
